Create Secure Learning Environments
SSLAG works to establish secure, hazard-free educational settings for students and educators.
Safe Schools Lagos (SSLAG) is an initiative developed by SchoolRun Academy Ventures for the Lagos State Government and the Lagos State Safety Commission.
Launched in April 2022, SSLAG aims to enhance safety in educational institutions across Lagos State by creating secure learning environments for students and educators.
The programme focuses on fostering a culture of safety and compliance within schools and allied establishments where children congregate for religious purposes, learning, or recreation. This includes places such as churches, mosques, learning centres, and theme parks.
SSLAG collaborates with various stakeholders, including the Lagos State Safety Commission and the Ministry of Education, to implement safety measures and raise awareness about the importance of school safety.
KEY OBJECTIVES
SSLAG works to establish secure, hazard-free educational settings for students and educators.
The initiative focuses on raising awareness of school safety, ensuring all stakeholders understand their role in maintaining a secure environment.
SSLAG aims to embed a culture of safety in every institution, from schools to places where children engage in recreational and religious activities.
SSLAG was launched on the 11th of April 2022 at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, State Secretariat, Alausa Lagos by the Lagos State Government.
Since its launch, SSLAG has made significant strides in improving school safety across Lagos State. The programme’s outreach efforts have reached thousands of educators, students, and parents, helping build a collective sense of responsibility toward ensuring safety in schools and related environments.
SSLAG is an acronym for Safe Schools’ Lagos. It is a Compliance Drive initiative that is developed as a follow up on the school safety guidelines that were initially launched in 2013 by the Lagos State Government.
The vision is to create a safety culture and compliance within all educational and allied establishments where children are congregated either for religious purposes, learning or fun. The mission is to make schools and all other allied establishments where children are congregated safe by:
1. Preventing avoidable risks,
2. Raising general safety awareness amongst teams,
3. Protecting children from harm and
4. Demonstrating the Sustainable Development Goal 4.
There are implications for stakeholders to keep children safe and promote their well being.
What does this mean? It means schools and places such as churches, mosques, learning centres, lessons and tutorial centres would be regulated or safe practices. Fun and theme parks where children go to enjoy rides and games are also included..
The SSLAG framework consists of 4 key elements and a compliance journey. The key elements are:
